(Formerly listed as Royal Marine
Inn)
19.4.61

GV II

Detached house, formerly an inn. Probably C18, possibly with an earlier core. Ham stone near-ashlar; plain clay tile
roof between stepped coped gables; brick end chimney stacks. Two storeys with attic, 3 bays. Plain mullioned windows
with beaded surrounds, 3-light to outer bays and 2-light to upper bay 2, all with rectangular leaded panes in steel
casements; to lower bay 2 a boarded door in beaded surround set in open stone porch of rudimentary detail; circular
columns with cushion caps, plain top crowned with cyma-recta edged flat roof. Extension against the south-west gable,
single-storey under triple-roll clay tile roof, undergoing alteration July 1985. Interior not seen. This may be the
George Inn, mentioned by name 1631 and by inference 1617, but in 1950's/1960s known as Royal Marine Inn. (VCH, Vol
