House, formerly school. Dated 1742, altered C19. Rendered granite rubble
stone and Swithland slate roof with two ridge stacks and a rear right end stack,
all rendered. Entrance faces garden. One storey of 4 2/2 sash windows with
door and 1-light to left and door to right. Part-glazed veranda. To rear,
facing Castle Hill, a door with overlight and 6 windows, mostly 8-pane top-opening.
On left gable end a further 8-pane and a slate tablet inscribed 'This English
School for poor boys out of Mountsorrel and Swithland given by Joseph Danvers,
Esq., 1742'. The roof appears to have C19 trusses but the massive chamfered
purlins are probably original.
