Hotel. Late C18, incorporating 2 mid C18 buildings in the rear
wing, with mid and late C19 and mid C20 additions and
alterations. Brick with plain tile roof. plinth, first and
second floor bands, rebated and cogged eaves, gutter on
brackets, coped gables, 2 ridge and single gable stacks.
Windows have painted flat arches, those to ground and first
floors with keystones. 3 storeys; 7 window range of plain
sashes, with a wrought iron sign bracket between the fifth and
sixth from left. Above, 7 smaller glazing bar sashes, one of
them blank, and the second from left replaced by a 2-light
casement. Below, C20 off-centre doorway with plastic hood,
flanked to right by 2 plain sashes and to left by 3. To left
again, 2 smaller plain casements. Rear wing, to Boar Lane,
brick with steep pitched slate roof, has first floor band and
single ridge stack. 2 storeys plus attics; 6 window range of
glazing bar sashes with a central blank. Above, a raking
dormer and 2 gabled dormers, all with glazing bar casements.
Below, 6 C19 and C20 windows. To right, 2 storey mid C18
range, rebuilt mid C20, brick with pantile roof. First floor
band and coped gables. 6 window range of segment headed C20
casements with 3 blanks. Below, door and 3 segment headed
windows. To right again, 2 storey range with pantile roof,
incomplete dentillated eaves and single gable stack. 2
windows, both blank. Below, to left, reconstructed stone
doorway with panelled double doors and inscribed overlight. To
right, 4 segment headed windows.
