Bankfield Farmhouse

Stone: early C19. Large square red sandstone block carries the
inscription:

MICKLE TRAFFORD CART-ROAD ONLY

on the west face and worn inscription on the east face reading:

Parish CART-ROAD, FOOTPATH .........ally.

Probably erected to combat illicit droving and carting across the Gowy
Valley and along Plemstall Lane, which avoided paying tolls on the
turnpike road.
