1839-41. W Shearburn, architect. Originally the Institution or Workhouse.
5 bays. Stuccoed. Pedimented centre and wings, both projecting. 2 storeys.
Centre wing with 1st storey of 3 windows projecting and supported by prostyle
portico of 4 Doric columns and 2 pillars (and 2 returning columns) with
entablature over. Central doorway on ground floor flanked by 2 sash windows.
Door with rectangular fanlight; door with glazing above; flat hood over on
brackets. Entablature above portico returning behind and then crossing
recessed bay on either side of central wing to form a parapet. Recessed bay
of 2 storeys. 1 window above and door below (identical to central door).
Cornice and main parapet. End wings of 2 storeys and 1 window with
rectangular pediment over and band above 1st floor. All windows sash with
glazing bars intact.
