SD 92SW TODMORDEN (former M.B.) MANCHESTER & LEEDS RAILWAY


5/191 Gauxholme Viaduct

G.V. II

Railway viaduct. 1840 by George Stephenson. Rough dressed stone with ashlar
dressing. 17 segmental arches with rusticated voussoirs with heads aligned to
the stone courses. Moulded impost carried on tapered piers with weathered
plinth all with rusticated stonework to outer faces. Carried over arches is
deeply roll moulded band with parapet. Outer wall to archway over Bacup Road
has projecting splayed buttress and curving ramped wall to embankment.
