Earlier/mid C19. A terrace of 4 cottages. Red brick with grey headers, band at
1st floor, moulded eaves cornice with wide and hipped slate roof. Very large chimney
stacks. A centre group of 4 diagonally placed on plinth and flanking groups of
2 similarly designed. 2 storeys. Symmetrical facade of 1, 1, 2, 1 and 1 windows,
those flanking the centre 2 in deeply recessed panel under gables. Keystones and
lozenged glazing, ground floor windows with cambered head linings. Ribbed doors
with flat hoods on brackets. Ramped 1 storey end outshut with 1 window and end
pier.
The Nook, Nos 1 to 4 (consec) (Nook Cottage) Blacksmiths House and The Old Smithy
at The Forge form a group with Nos 1 and 2, Wellside Cottages (the latter two are
buildings of local interest).
