Ice House. Early C19. Coursed squared red sandstone blocks, with flat coping stones to
walling flanking the entrance, now beneath overgrown earth mound. Circular plan with
central access passage,approached through an outer entrance with flanking raked retaining
walls,with flat sandstone copings. Short vaulted access passage, ending at access doorway to
ice chamber with iron-barred door. Circular ice chamber with curved floor cut into
bedrock, 5 metres or more in diameter, with a shallow domed roof The roof dome and the
chamber walling above bedrock level are of regularly. coursed sandstone blocks. The dome
is penetrated by a single ice chute.The ice house was built to the west of ornamental lakes
within the parkland of Himley Hall, and to the north of the hall itself
