Moated Manor House. C15 and C16 with later alterations and additions. Exposed
timber frame. Central attached shaft red brick chimney stack. Red tiled roofs.
Now H plan. 2 storeys. 3 window range of diamond leaded, 3 or 4 light cross
transomed casements. Central red brick porch with Cavendish coat of arms over.
Vertically boarded door with flat canopy on original carved brackets. Window of
early stained glass fragments. South front has a fine original oriel window of
12 lights with moulded frame, mullions and transoms, and carved soffit board. 4
early stained glass roundels. Two smaller matching oriels to ground floor. The
interior has exposed moulded ceiling beams. Linenfold panelled room. Moulded
panelled room. Twisted baluster staircase. Carved stone fireplace. Heavily
carved support brackets to original rear jetty, probably original door brackets.
Carved mantel-piece. C17 iron casement windows. C18 east wing with good
features including internal panelled shutters, wainscots, dados, panelled doors
with catches etc. Fire surrounds and corner cupboards. Waterloo Victory Bell on
roof. RCHM 2.
