GV II

House, formerly parish workhouse dated 1827. Hammer dressed stone, stone slate
roof. 2 storeys. 2 cells each with flat faced mullioned windows of 2 wide
lights and 2 square windows over to 1st floor, (all have altered glazing), and
doorways with monolithic jambs (one blocked). The central doorway has a plaque
over inscribed: "This Building was Erected A:D 1827, by a
Committee with the money arising from the
coal in the White Birch Farm in Northow-
ram, of which the interest that arises
therefrom, is to be distributed to such
poor people of Barkisland as have no
Parochial Relief"

Stone gutter brackets and 2 stacks to the ridge. The modern buildings attached
to either end are excluded from the item. The interior retains a room panelled
in pine which is said to have been the Council meeting room formerly.
