SP52SW MIDDLETON STONEY SCHOOL LANE
(South side)

5/123 No.1 Thatched Cottage, Easter
Cottage, Thatchover, Middle
Cottage and Fuchsia Cottage

- II

Terrace of 6 cottages, now 5. Mid/late C18. Limestone rubble with some squared
dressings; thatch roof with rubble and brick stacks. Double-depth plans. One
storey plus attic. Each cottage has a doorway and a 3-light casement, both with
segmental arches, and has a 3-light half dormer. All original casements survive
but 3 doorways now have 2-light casements. Position of doorways alternates, and
cottages share 3 large stacks. Rear has further doorways and old casements.
Interiors not inspected. Probably built for the estate workers of the Earls of
Jersey.
