ST 67 NW WINTERBOURNE THE STREAM (north side) Hambrook

circa 70 metres north west of

Storehouse, perhaps icehouse, and folly. Mid C19. Rubble, ashlar. A
circular domed structure, central circular top light, pointed arched entrance
to west approached between low curved, flanking walls, above arch is a
pedimented plaque which bears the word "GERIZIM", all covered in an earthen
mound. Surmounting this is the top 6 metres of the spire of Winterbourne
Church which was damaged by lightning in 1871. Octagonal ribbed it stands on
a circular plinth on blocks above the central light in the mound. Reset here
by a former rector who lived in Hambrook House (q.v.).
