Description

1.
840 WOOL MARKET
(North Side)
No 35
NU 0052 11/237 1.8.52.
II
2.
Perhaps circa 1830's. Ashlar, partly painted. 3 storeys, with cornice,
gable scrolls, and slender moulded pilasters flanking the upper storeys.
The lower storey is 1 of the most extraordinary in the region. Every
piece of ashlar has a plain margin, within which it is deeply fluted at an
angle of 45 degrees (not all same direction). 2 windows, doorpiece, and
stringcourse at first floor level, are carved all over with shallow
enrichments, not exactly chip carving but that sort of relief, in non-
representational style.
