Circa 1850. Corner site with George Street. Three storeys painted brick
and stuccoed ground floor on plinth. Rusticated quoins. Low pitch
hipped slate roof, curved round corner, bracketed eaves. Second floor
moulded sill course. Four windows to Esplanade, inset curved corner
bay of one window and one window to George Street. The second floor
windows reach up into frieze. Tripartite windows to curved corner bay,
the first floor windows reach up into frieze. Tripartite windows to
curved corner bay, the first floor one with panelled pilasters between
lights. All recessed, sash, later glazing bars, chamfered edges to
reveals. First floor Esplanade front has bay windows of three lights,
sash, later glazing bars, chamfered edges to frames, cornices and
shallow leaded roofs. Ground floor East rusticated with frieze and
moulded cornice. Three round headed plate glass windows in shallow
arched recesses, the centre one with the colonettes flanking. Panelled
and glazed door in similar shallow arched recess with semi-circular
fanlight. The adjoining arcaded section to West project slightly and
has three broad panelled pilasters supporting frieze and heavy raised
modillion cornice which breaks forward over them. The arcade has
panelled piers and moulded arches. It contains two round headed windows,
and two round headed doorways with semi-circular fanlights to the
Esplanade. The curved corner section has two smaller arched windows
flanking a round headed doorway with fanlight. The bay facing George
Street repeats the rustication of the Eastern section on the Esplanade
with a similar door in arched recess.
