Terraced houses. 1726,as part of Sir James Smith's development of the
square. Brown brick with red brick dressings, tiled roofs. 3 storeys,
basements and dormered mansards. Each front 3 windows wide. Doorways to
left, panelled doors in wooden doorcases with thin pilasters, set against
rustications, supporting finely carved console brackets to cornice-hoods.
Recessed box framed glazing bar sashes under red brick segmental arches.
Brick plat bands over 1st floors; parapets with copings. Fine wrought
iron area railings with scrollwork flanking entrances and remains of link
extinguishers. Interiors, despite alteration, retain substantial amounts
of panelling, passage halls and dog leg open and carved string staircases
changing to closed strings for the topmost flights, turned balusters, etc.
Part of an exceptionally well preserved early C.18 enclave with Lord
North, Barton and Cowley Streets q.v.
