House, part used as chapel late C19-early C20. Dated LPS 1674 on tablet, heavily
restored c.1970. Coursed ironstone rubble with Ketton stone dressings to N and W
wings, ironstone dressings to NE wing, and C20 concrete dressings to much of S
wing. Collyweston slate roof, stone gable copings with ogee half-pendants to
kneelers, ashlar chimneys with moulded neckings and cornices. Original building
is of irregular T-plan with main wings to W and S and short N wing with entry and
staircase; to NE is another C17 wing, altered C19, and to SE a wing of uncertain
date, much rebuilt C20. 2 storeys and attic. Chamfered plinth, moulded string
courses, ovolo-moulded mullion windows with moulded cornices. Projecting W wing
has blind gable end to road with fire insurance plaque and cornice over date
plaque, 3 2-light windows in left return, and one bay of 4-light windows in right
return. Right return also has small blocked fireplace window to left, and hipped
dormer. 3-bay S wing retains one original 4-light window to first floor left but
other 3 and 4-light matching windows were made in concrete c.1970 to replace
sashes and former chapel openings. Hipped dormer to left. N wing has ashlar
front with moulded window over C20 door in original shouldered architrave
surround. 3-light windows in N gable. NE wing, to rear, has Welsh slate roof,
irregular C17 ironstone windows with ovolo-moulded mullions, and door in C17
4-centred arch. C20 door in C20 moulded doorcase to centre rear. Interior: 3
4-centred chamfered arches with cornices to rooms and passage at N end of house;
good C17 staircase with turned wooden balusters and tall moulded newel finials;
large fireplace in W wing, with moulded wooden lintel and re-sited inset stone
fireplace with 4-centred arch and cornice.
