The original red brick house was built circa 1600 on an L-shaped plan,
probably by William Bradbury, and about 1660 a wing similar to the south
wing was added at the back. The house is of 2 storeys and attics with
the main front facing north. The north front has 2 dissimilar gables,
one ogee shaped and the other plain. Two window range of original 8-light
mullioned and transomed leaded casements with moulded frames and transomes.
Each gable has a 2-light leaded casement. The central doorway, approached
by stone steps with iron railings, has a semi-circular pediment enclosing
an ornamental cartouche bearing the coat of arms of the Bradbury family.
Above the doorway is a circular niche enclosing a stone bust. At the north-east
angle of this front there is a stone figure in Roman dress. The south
side has 3 gables and 2 gabled dormers. The west side has some original
leaded casements. On the east side there are 2 external chimney stacks.
Roofs tiled. The interior has original features including a staircase
of circa 1660. (RCHM 4).
