40/31A Anvil Cottage (At rear of No 35-Slatters)

Cottage. Late mediaeval with later alterations. Built as a detached kitchen at the rear of Slatters ( q.v.) and subsequently incorporated at the end of the rear wing. Now a separate dwelling. Timber frame underbuilt in C19 brick on front and side, tile hung above on front rendered at side and rear. Plain tile hipped roof to short ridge. Brick stack at rear. Two storeys. Two timber framed bp$rs with some upper tension, braces visible internally and a central angle braced truss. Two window front with central single storey C.20 hipped roof entrance porch. Door with glazed upper panel with glazing bars. A casement with bars to either side, on upper floor a double casement to left and a single casement above porch. C20 casements to side, and rear. Important as an example of a formerly detached mediaeval timber framed kitchen and for group value.
