Broadoaks Farmhouse
(formerly listed as
Broadoaks Manor House)
TL 53 SE 18/850 26.11.51

2.
The remaining part of a large C16 moated brick manor house with many original
features. Restored. The house was built in 1560 and the present building
was the north block of the original house. The south front is largely
modern being rebuilt after the demolition of the north block. The windows
on this front are modern bar and transom casements but the front entrance
has a moulded door frame which is partly original. The east front has
2 gables and some C18 brickwork and double-hung sash windows with glazing
bars. The north and west sides are original but the west side has some
modern restoration. The west end of the north front is gabled. There
are stone mullioned windows, some with transoms. The gabled part at the
west end has a 12-light ground storey window, an 18-light double transomed
window on the first storey and a 4-light attic window all restored with
lattice leaded lights. There are similar windows on the west side, some
with brick mullions and transoms. The west front is buttressed and has
a dentilled eaves cornice of moulded brick. Roof tiled, with 3 fine original
chimney stacks with octagonal shafts. There are good interior features,
in particular the fine stone fireplaces in the upper storey north-west
room, another fireplace in oak in the south-west room, various doors and
panelling and an open fireplace in the hall. The east room has C18 features.
(RCHM 16).
