Late Victorian four storeyed building with parapet and cornice, brick with
rendered dressings. Listed for unusual shop front of wood carved it neo-
Jacobean manner. The shop and entrance No 24A are contained within
a frame of 3/4 tapered pilasters with floral and ribbon carving on
panelled pedestals. Splayed elongated necking to eggs and dart moulded
capitals with leaf finials. Above these grotesque heads with swagged beards
supporting frieze and cornice with egg and dart moulding. The shop
front consists of a large central segmental arched plate glass window,
with scrolled stops, floral carving in the spandrels and a scrolled
keystone breaking up into frieze. The arch springs from the egg and
dart mould transom of the left side window and from the similar door-
head of the shop to the right. Both are of plate glass, the side
window having an arched glazing bar at the top. They have square
upper lights with marginal glazing and an octagonal centre pane. Very
thin composite pilasters separate them from the main central window.
The entrance No 24A to the right has a panelled door, the upper part
glazed. Above the lintel runs a miniature balustrade set in front of a
recessed panel partially concealed by a semi-circular arch, springing
from the balustrade, with spandrels filled with shell and folage
carving. Curiosity value.
