House. 1894-5, by Sir Edwin Lutyens for Gertrude Jekyll. Whitewashed roughcast
with plain tiled roofs, half-hipped with gablets, and tile hung to end left. T-
shaped plan with living room cross wing to right. Single storey with attics to
left under two gabled leaded casement dormers. Massive corbelled multiple stack
to centre of left range, detached corbelled stack to right and small stack to
rear. Two leaded wood-framed windows to ground floor left, one leaded window in
gable end of outhouse range to left end with tile hung, truncated stack. Half-
hipped end of living room range to right, with one five-light window under tile-
on-edge lintel over double casement doors. Further doors to rear left.
Interior:- Three bay roof to living room with Queen-strut trusses. Large fire-
place to right.
The grounds around the house were once part of the Jekyll gardens to Munstead Wood
and are noted in the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in
England - Part 40, Surrey (I).
