House, dated 1742. Watershot coursed sandstone rubble with large
quoins, stone slate roof with gable copings and kneelers, gable
chimneys. Double pile 2-bay plan, with 2-bay cottage built as rear
extension to 1st bay. Two storeys, symmetrical: in the centre a 2-
storey gabled porch with moulded coping and kneelers; studded door in
chamfered surround with very large jambstones and lintel, on which a
shouldered panel has raised lettering " B " (= Brandwood, John and Mary);

oval window at 1st floor, round peephole at ground floor of side wall.
Two stone mullion windows on each floor, those at ground floor with
shallow double chamfer and hoodmoulds, others chamfered, those on the
left 4 lights, those on the right 5 lights (a 5th light, square, has been
added to the ground floor left): all these windows have small rectangular
leaded lights which appear to be original. Rear has a 3-light window
on each floor of the 2nd bay (like those at front) and a crosswindow
stairlight (the lower lights blocked); attached cottage of 2 lower
storeys has a board door flanked by altered windows and a 4-light window
under the eaves, large quoins at the rear corner; beyond which later C18
altered cottages continue under the same roof (but are not included in the
item). Interior: 4-room plan without hallway; slim roll-moulded beams;
fireplace with shouldered jambs; original dogleg staircase with slim
turned balusters and string; original doors with fielded panels; hooks in
flat floor ceiling (purpose unknown). Unusually complete and intact
example of C18 house.
