STANFORD ON SOAR STANFORD HALL DRIVE SK 52 SE (south side) 8/81 Sea Lion Pool, Penguin Pool and urns in the gardens of Stanford Hall G.V. II Sea lion pool, now auditorium, penguin pool now rose bed and urns. Late C18 and late 1930s. Messrs. Allom for Sir Julian Cahn. Dressed coursed rubble, rock-face ashlar and ashlar. Sea lion pool with diameter of approximately 120 metres, broken by 2 gateways, one with double iron gate and 2 small piers with ashlar orb finials. Interior has an irregular rock platform. The south side has a small culvert linking the 2 pools with small balustraded footbridge over. The rubble walls of the penguin pool have a diameter of about 60 metres. Flanking this pool are single decorative C18 urns, remodelled in the 1930s.
