Townsend Cottages

GV II

House, formerly 3 cottages. Early C17 3 bay lobby entrance house refronted in
the C18 and altered and extended in C20. Exteior of red brick, some English
bond, same English Garden wall bond. Old tiled roof, half-hipped to left with
2 brick chimney stacks, 1 external. 1 storey and attics 3 windows 3 C19
gabled dormers with casement. Ground floor has left side C20 tripple casement
with 2 cambered head brick arches above. Central triple casement in cambered
brick arch and right side C20 metal casement. Left side C19 gabled porch and
traces of blocked doorcase to right. Right side elevation has exposed queen
posts to gables and mid rail. C20 extension to right hand side. Interior has
ground floor room with chamfered axial beam with lamb's tounge step. Half
this beam is rough hewn and was originally behind a partition. Open fireplace
with bread oven. Some plank doors and wide floor boards. 1st floor has
exposed gunstock jowled posts. Queen post and through purlin roof.
