Pair of town houses in terraced row on west side of street,
now offices. c1850, altered. Watershot coursed sandstone,
slate roof. Double-depth plan, No.1 with entrance front in
right-hand return to Red Lion Street and No.3 asymmetrically
3 storeys over cellars, 3+1 windows; with a continuous moulded
gutter cornice. No.1 to the right has 2-light windows at
ground and 1st floors, with plain square-cut mullions and
former sashed windows now replaced with altered glazing; and
at 2nd floor one small sashed window without glazing bars: all
these windows with plain square-cut surrounds and raised
sills. No.3 to the left has a tall later-C19 doorway offset
right with plain jambs, scrolled consoles and a cornice, and a
C20 door with large overlight; a 2-light window to the left
(like those of No.1) and a single-light window to the right; 3
one-light windows at 1st floor, all with altered glazing; and
at 2nd floor 2 smaller widely-spaced sashed windows without
glazing bars: all these windows with surrounds and sills like
those of No.1.
INTERIORS understood to be remodelled.
Forms group with Nos 5, 7 & 9 adjoining to the left (qv) and
with Nos 11 & 13A beyond these (qv), the whole being a good
example of "late Georgian" town housing.
