Late C18. Terraced houses. Red brick. Ripped slate roof. Late Cl9 red brick
chimneys with brick tumbling and much cornicing.
3 storeys and basement with area. Brick eaves, cornice with cyma recta modillions.
6 ranges of double-hung sash windows with glazing bars (no glazing bars on ground
floor of No 55). Both houses have a 2 storey extension to east and west respectively,
of grey headers with red brick dressings, modillion eaves cornice and pitched
slate roofs. No 55 has 1 double hung sash window with glazing bars on the 1st
floor, and 1 doorway up 4 ashlar steps arched over the area, and framed by unfluted
Roman Doric 3/4 columns carrying a dentilled pediment. Door with 6 fielded panels
and semi-circular fanlight in panelled reveals. No 57's has 1 range of double-hung
sash windows with glazing bars, that on ground floor flush framed. Door of No
57 in main block, instead of west ground floor window: up 6 limestone steps, with
porch on Tuscan columns and pilasters supporting a pediment and a frieze with
paterae and fluting. Panelled soffit of pediment, and panelled reveals to door
with semi-circular fanlight. Area has 1 basement door, 1 modern basement window
and 1 double-hung sash basement window with glazing bars to No 55, and No 57 is
filled in except for 1 casement basement window with glazing bars.
Iron railings in front of area: No 55's late C19 with bulbous finials: No 57's
late C18 with urn finials.
Nos 45 to 63 (odd), 67 to 73 (odd) and 77 to 83 (odd) form a group with
Nos 46 to 62 (even) and with pavements and railings.
