House. 1847. By John Adey Repton for William Repton. Red brick laid in English bond with half-timbered first floor and C20 concrete tile roofs. 2 storeys with 3-storey tower. Complex irregular plan. Tudor Revival style. EXTERIOR: entrance front to north with 2 gables over brick ground floor. Left gable with 5-light transomed casement to ground floor, timber-framed first floor with projecting 3-light casement set within decorative framed panels. Right gable-head projects over ground floor on pair of stone console brackets: ground floor with shouldered stone entrance doorway, first-floor with 2-light oriel window within decorative timber framing. Asymmetrical west front is 3-window range with advanced gable to left. Ground floor with 3 2-light casements, the central casement projecting. Gable with 4-light casement in lean-to under sloping roof. Timbered first floor with 3-light oriel to gable and 2 2-light casements to main wall to right. Stack to far right on wall plane terminating in twin octagonal flues with star tops. Further ridge stacks at irregular intervals with 3 and 4 octagonal star-topped flues. South front is 4-window range with projecting gables to right and left, that to right with 4-light projecting window, to left with canted bay window. Projecting 3-light casement in middle of recessed centre. First floor of gables each with projecting 3-light casement of differing design. 2 2-light casements to centre flank small single light. Asymmetrical east front to street with centrepiece developed as a 3-storey square tower to left under pyramid roof, the top stage half-timbered, and a projecting jettied gable-end to right. Half-timbered main ranges behind. Scattered fenestration of 2- and 3-light casements. INTERIOR: not inspected.
Important early example of developed Tudor Revival style.
