Description

SX 86 NW TORBRYAN TORBRYAN HAMLET

4/61 Broadway Farm
-

GV II

Farmhouse. C16 or C17. Rendered stone or cob. Slated roof, gabled at each end.
Large rendered stacks in left-hand gable and on ridge off-centre to right (probably
serving the original hall). 3-room and through-passage plan with stack at upper
end of hall. 2 storeys. 3 windows wide. Doorway off-centre to left, between the
2 left-hand ground-storey windows, has late C19 gable porch. These 2 windows have
C19 three-light wood casements, each with 4-panes; C20 metal-framed window to
right of ground storey. Second-storey windows have C19 three-part wood casements,
each with three panes and with three-panes transom-lights above. Right-hand window
has segmental head. Interior not inspected, but information from owner indicates
that hall and kitchen had large open fireplaces (now blocked up), and that the
head-beam of screen between hall and passage survives. Houses with stack at the
upper end of hall are an extremely rare arrangement in Devon.
