4/183 Postmans and The Cottage
GV II
Pair of cottages. Probably C18, extended in mid to late C20. Stone rubble with
granite quoins. Steeply pitched slate roof with hipped ends and gable end to front.
Central stone rubble axial stack with dressed strings.
Plan: Originally of overall 'T' shaped plan; pair of one-room plan cottages with
entrances probably originally in left and right hand sides, entering directly into
the main rooms which share the central axial stack. The projection in centre on
front contains the two staircases. The Cottage to right was extended to rear right
in the mid to late C20.
Exterior: Two storeys. Almost symmetrical 3-window front with central gabled full
height stair projection on front. The two staircases share a central probably C20 2-
light casement with dressed stone flat arch and blind quatrefoil in gable end.
Postmans to left has a probably C20 2-light casement on ground floor and C19 2-light
casement on first. The cottage to right has a similar arrangement. C20 extension to
rear right.
Interior: Not inspected.
Similar design to Lemarne (qv) and Mill Cottage and Lower Mill Cottage (qv).
