Erected in 1879 to memory of Sotheron-Estcourt. Consists of a large stone
octagonal basin with sides of inverted segmental curves and angle piers
and crowned with bronze eagles with secondary smaller drinking troughs on
each face with lion 'mask' spouts.
From the centre of the large basin a massive central shaft of grouped, curved
formation supports on upper basin, from which a tall group of engaged columns
rises in centre forming hase of statue of Mr Estcourt. Picturesque in setting
of pollarded plane trees.

All the listed buildings on the South-West Side, South-East Side,
Market Hall, Market Cross and the Fountain form a group.
