Detached cottage. Mid C17, C18 addition. Rubble stone, stone
slate roof with coped verges and gable end stone stacks with
moulded cappings. Single-storey and attic, 2-window. Square stone
porch with planked door to left, one 2-light cyma-mullioned
casement to left and two to right; right hand bay is addition to
right of straight joint. Attic has full gabled dormer with 2-light
recessed cyma-mullioned casement to left and hipped half-dormer to
right with mullioned casement. Rear lean-to extension with C20
casements.
Interior said to have beaded fireplace surround in added bay. The
toll gate on the Bath Road was sited at this cottage, the turnpike
was set up in the first decade of the C18; the earliest in
Wiltshire.
