Primary school. 1947. Hertfordshire County Council. Steel
frame with horizontal precast concrete panels on Hills 8' 3"
system as reformed by Hertfordshire County Council. Low
pitched roof to hall; flat roofs to classrooms. Tall hall
block, with a pair of lower single storey junior classrooms
attached and, stepped back and separated by lower entrance
link, the infants' classroom block. All arranged along a
slight ridge with classrooms overlooking valley. Hall mostly
solid walled, with inset 5-bay strip of tall windows at first
floor level; brick podium, recessed behind steel columns.
Prominent circular concrete chimney to end. Classrooms almost
fully glazed to view with three bays of glazing per classroom.
Metal window frames. Overhanging eaves "cornice". The first
school built on the Hills 8' 3" system as reformed by
Hertfordshire.
