ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS KEW
Avenue Lodge

(Formerly listed as Avenue Lodge, ROYAL BOTANIC GARDENS)

II*
1866 by William Eden Nesfield. Red brick, tiled roof. Simple square single storey pavilion with dormers.

Stubby pilasters between wooden mullioned and transomed windows. Heavy coved cornice with incised pie decoration. Steeply pitched pyramidal roof with double pedimented and segmental dormers. Massive central chimney stack with elaborate moulded brick ornamentation.

Very early example of "Queen Anne" style, later popularised by Nesfield's erstwhile partner Norman Shaw in the 1870s.
