TF 03 SW PICKWORTH off ROTTEN SYKES LANE

6/59 The Old Hall Farm House

II

Farm House; 1608 with C20 alterations and additions. Ashlar with pantile
roof and stone coped gables, brick gable and ridge stacks. 2 storey with
attics, 4 bay front with lobby entry, off centre, C20 part glazed door in stone
surround with cornice over, flanked by two 2-light C20 casements in C17 stone
surrounds broken open at cill level. To the left a taller 3 light similar
window; all windows have original cornices. Above and to left of door
a datestone "1608". Above are three 2-light casements as ground floor, but
shorter 3 light ovolo mullioned window in 2nd bay from left is original C17.
In roof are 2 gabled 2 light dormers. The gable end was 2 C20 3 light
timber mullion windows and one blocked garret light. Interior has one C17
stone fireplace with 4 centre arch, plain chamfered beams, and a partly restored
butt purlin roof with numbered principals. The kitchen hearth is spanned
by a reused mid-hall tie beam of late medieval type.
