Cottage. C17 with later alterations and additions. Timber framed, brick faced
and rough rendered. Red tiled gambrel roof. Left red brick chimney stack. One
storey and attics. 3 flat headed dormers. 3 window range of small paned
casements. C20 gabled porch to centre of left original bays. Jowled storey
post to ground floor, chamfered bridging joists, inglenook fireplace with
renewed mantel beam. Joseph Lewis and Robert Youngs, husbandmen, lived here
1796. F.H. Erith, "Ardleigh in 1796", 1978.
