ST 97 SE CALNE WITHOUT LONDON ROAD (A4), Black Dog Hill
(south side)

2/83 Nos 76 and 77

II

Pair of Bowood estate houses, c1850-60, squared ashlar block with
slate eaves roof, ridge and west end stacks. Two-storey near-
symmetrical road front with long stone-mullion windows and small
pane casements. Off-centre projecting gable with 3-light and
hoodmould over 1-2-1-light stone canted bay. In angle each side
are Tudor-arched porches with stepped parapets. Wings each have
one-window range of 2-light windows, lower window with hoodmould,
upper window in eaves-breaking dormer. Wing to right, No 76, is
shorter. No 76 has further parallel rear range. No 77 has east
end 2-light over 1-3-1-light canted stone bay and rear wing with
east side 3-light with hoodmould and 2-light over in dormer gable.
