Pair of houses and attached area railings. Part of a row of 6 pairs connected by single storey links, now garages. 1827-1833, altered late C19 and C20. Probably designed by PF Robinson and built by William Patterson for the fourth Duke of Newcastle. Stucco, with slate roof and coped gables. 4 plain side wall stacks. Plinth, eaves cornice, coped parapet. Windows are glazing bar sashes, with moulded surrounds, cornices to the ground floor, and bracketed sills above. 2 storeys plus basement and garrets; 4 window range. In the centre, a projecting double porch with cornice and parapet, with 2 fielded 6-panel doors flanked by pilasters. Each return has a round-arched window. To right, a round-cornered bay window, 2 storeys, with a sash on each floor. To left, a single sash. Above, 3 sashes. Outside, flanking the porch, cast-iron spearhead area railings and gates. This building is part of an early scheme by the Duke of Newcastle to develop the Castle Park.
