House, now offices. c1800. Ashlar and stucco. Hipped slate
roof Single brick ridge stack.
2 storeys plus basement; 4 x 3 windows. Ashlar north front has
rusticated basement and the upper floors divided by Ionic
pilasters. First floor has four 12 pane sashes, and second
floor, four 9 pane sashes. Ground floor has four 12 pane
sashes with round heads. Basement has 2 openings with metal
grilles. Stucco entrance front, to west, has first and second
floor bands and recessed centre, single window. Central 12
pane sash flanked to left by a similar sash and to right by 2
more. Above, three 9 pane sashes. Ground floor has central
Ionic portico with fluted columns, and half-glazed double
doors with fanlight. To left, a 12 pane sash, and to right, 2
similar sashes. Rear has domed octagonal stair turret.
INTERIOR has panelled elliptical arch and cornice to hallway,
with half-glazed screen and sidelights. Corniced doorcases.
Circular stone stair.
The Sheffield Hospital for Women was established here in 1864.
