Ye Olde Cock Inn

Inn, now public house. Late C18, altered. White-painted
roughcast on brick, green slate roof. Long rectangular plan
plus back extensions. Three storeys, a 5-window facade, with
doorways at the left end and between the 4th and 5th windows,
the former with a pedimented doorcase and the latter with a
simple flat-roofed porch on 2 columns; a 2-storey canted bay
window offset left of centre, with C20 4-light casements at
ground floor and 3 sashes at 1st floor, a 1-storey canted bay
at the right-hand end, and 2 C20 cross-window casements;
otherwise, all 1st-floor windows are sashed, with glazing bars
in the upper leaves only, and all 2nd floor windows are
shallow sashes with one tier of panes in each leaf. Moulded
wooden gutter cornice; 4 ridge chimneys. Rear (unrendered) has
some sashed windows. Interior altered. History: built on site
of C16 building known as The Cock.
