House. C17 and C18. Timber-framed and rendered , with ashlared
rendered front; with double-gabled plain tile roofs with stack
to south-east end and stack to original north-west flank wall.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with attic and cellar; symmetrical
3-window range. 3 segmental-headed dormers with 2-light
casements, each with a central horizontal glazing bar. 1st
floor has a tripartite small-paned sash window either side of
a central 16-pane sash. Ground floor has a canted bay window
with lead roof and small-paned sashes, either side of a
central doorcase. This has a painted timber,
semicircular-headed surround with keystone and radiating lobed
fanlight; 6-panel door with raised-and-fielded panels; 4 stone
steps and wrought-iron handrails with boot scrapers. Cellar
light with wrought-iron bars in plinth.
The rear range is of white weatherboarding with a stack on
south-east gable. The 1st floor has one tripartite small-paned
sash, a 2-light casement and small 2-light windows. The ground
floor has similar tripartite sash, 2 entrance doors, one with
C19 sidelights. Now attached and at right-angles, is a
single-storey C19 brewhouse/bakehouse with plain tile gabled
roof and mixture of brick, render and black weatherboarding.
INTERIOR: central stair well with straight-flight staircase. 3
bays of framing with encased spine and bridging joists and one
jowl-like post on 1st floor. Early C19 doors and architraves
and marble fireplace on 1st floor front room. Rear range is of
C17 framing with side-purlin roof with heavy collars (reused?)
and chamfered spine beam with shallow broad joists
soffit-tenoned in on one side. Main block was clearly extended
out on north-west flank to provide symmetrical front.
