House, now shops, offices and flat. Late C16 and mid C18.
Front of pinkish red Flemish-bond brick with rubbed and
moulded brick detail; roofs of plain tiles and rear walls of
render and pebbledash.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys; 5-window range; 2-storey parallel rear
range and wing. Plain parapet; brick string band at base of
parapet supported on 2 downward tapering, fluted brick
pilasters, 2nd floor has 5 flush, margin-glazed sash windows
all with extra central vertical glazing bar and rubbed brick
flat arches; the brick of this storey is slightly pinker than
storey below (later?). 1st floor is surmounted by moulded
brick bases and capitals; 5 sashes similar to, but deeper
than, above with brick aprons with soffit mutules. Ground
floor has central pedimented doorcase with short attached
Tuscan columns on pedestals, against a rusticated stucco
backing with flat arch and triple keystone. C20 shop front has
interrupted fascia, piers of rusticated stucco and 4 openings,
3 with small-paned windows.
The rear elevation reveals a parallel 2-storey range with
plain tile gambrel roof and plain parapet. A 2-storey
timber-framed block, with gabled plain tile roof, projects at
right-angles and is surmounted in part by a further storey
with gabled plain tile roof and end stack, which interrupts
the rear gambrel-roofed part. The rear of the latter is
pebbledashed and has a flat-roofed dormer and a 12-pane sash
window on its 1st floor. Large C20 rear extensions.
INTERIOR: the 1st floor of the front range has a room on the
western end with mid C18 panelling, dentilled plaster cornice
and fireplace on flank with shouldered architrave and broken
pedimented overmantel with shouldered and eared architrave.
All 1st-floor front windows have folding shutters in reveals.
Other parts of front range have dado and skirting and some old
doors and architraves. The 2nd floor, now a flat, has some old
raised-and-fielded panelled doors.
The rear range at right-angles has timber-framing of the late
C16 with jowled posts. This was of 3 bays with an attic storey
with A-frames, part in the roof, but the floor levels are now
altered. An extra very short bay at the southern end has
jowled posts, and was ceiled over part of its width.
