Two houses with shops. 1836-39, with later alterations and C19
shopfronts. Pink-grey mottled brick in Flemish bond, with
moulded timber eaves cornice; brick stacks to hipped slate
roof with angle scrolls.
EXTERIOR: 4-storey, 3-window front. Shopfront to No.31 has
sunk panel pilasters, broad fascia and dentil cornice, and
half-glazed door and plate glass windows over raised panel
risers: recessed panelled door and overlight in panelled
reveal incorporated at right end. Shopfront to No.32, framed
in pilasters with imposts, beneath sloped fascia and bold
moulded cornice incorporating blind boxes, has half-glazed
door on corner. Windows on first and second floors are 12-pane
sashes, on third floor unequal 9-pane sashes, all with painted
stone sills and flat arches of brick. Fluted bowl rainwater
head at left end of cornice. Right return: 4 storeys,
irregular fenestration. Shopfront to No.32 returns, partly
blocked by painted brick, and incorporates pilastered doorcase
to right of centre. Windows are mainly 12-pane sashes, with
unequal 9-pane sashes on third floor: openings at left end of
second and third floors are blind.
