Formerly known as: No.39 LOW PETERGATE.
Formerly known as: No.3 (Northern Part) GRAPE LANE.
Includes: No.1 GRAPE LANE.
House. Early C17; refronted and raised in early C19; Grape
Lane front rebuilt later in C19; altered C19 shopfront. Front
block timber-framed, refronted in orange-grey brick in Flemish
bond; timber cornice; pantile roof.
EXTERIOR: 4-storey 1-window front to Low Petergate. Shopfront
framed in plain pilasters, fascia and cornice: plate glass
windows over sunk-panel risers and glazed and panelled corner
door. Window on first floor is 16-pane sash, on second floor
12-pane sash, on third floor unequal 9-pane sash, all with
narrow painted sills and channelled lintels.
Grape Lane front: 3 storeys and attic; 4 windows. Shopfront
returns at right end from Low Petergate; 1 Grape Lane has C20
shopfront. 16-pane sash on ground floor has panelled shutters.
Windows on first and second floors generally are 16-pane
sashes with painted stone sills and channelled lintels or
cambered brick arches, with 2-light casements inserted in each
floor of No.1 Grape Lane. Dentilled and modillioned cornice
from Low Petergate front returns at right end: plain parapet
to remainder.
INTERIOR: not inspected. RCHM records some close framing in
the first-floor front rom, and on the second floor an exposed
post and an axial beam with original attic floor joists pegged
to it. 3 early C18 doors.
