St Ann's Well
GV II
Drinking well. c1940, on site of earlier wells dating back to
the Roman period. Ashlar gritstone with ashlar dressings,
marble trough, plinth and stand, bronze figures.
Rectangular base with tall square ashlar pier flanked by lower
set back piers with moulded plinth and topped with convex
coping. Front has shaped centre panel with round headed niche
with mosaic inlay, containing 2 bronze figures, St Ann and
child. Above is inscription A TRIBUTE/ TO THE MEMORY OF/
EMELIE DOROTHY BOUNDS/ COUNCILLOR OF THIS BOROUGH/ by her
husband and daughter. Below is a bronze lion's head delivering
water into the projecting rectangular marble trough on
pedestal stand.
