School. 1864. Unrendered stone rubble with ashlar dressings. Absestos slate
roof with coped gable ends and serrated ridge tiles.
Plan: Rectangular plan main block built gable end to the Square, with entrance wing
to left and larger gable-ended wing to its rear forming overall F-shaped plan.
Single storey. Gable ends of main range have large pointed arched windows with
polychromatic surrounds, that to rear partially enclosed by later outshut, that to
front with plate tracery consisting of quatrefoil above transomed window of 4
staggered trefoil-headed lights. Apex bell turret with ashlar base and steeply
pitched gabled roof supported by timber uprights and pierced at front with pointed
arched opening. Spike finial. Bell insitu. Entrance wing to left has double plank
doors with steep hipped part slated, part louvred dormer roof. The doors are
flanked by windows with trefoil window at left end. Right side of main range has
large 4-light mullion windows with shouldered heads and raking dormer roofs flanking
two 3-light chamfered mullion windows.
The school stands on the site of the former workhouse.
