Formerly known as: Ogleforth Cottage and No.14 CHAPTER HOUSE STREET. Pair of houses. Early C19 conversion of earlier building. Painted brick, left side rendered; timber guttering on paired modillions; pantile roof with brick coping, kneelers and stacks: orange brick extension to No.6 in English garden-wall, partly painted, pantile roof and brick stack. EXTERIOR: 2-storey 6-window front. Coved segmental carriage arch with concave jambs closed by double gates of sunk panelling, ramped-up at outer ends. Front doors are of 6 raised and fielded panels deeply recessed beneath radial fanlights in round-arched openings. No.4 has 16-pane sashes on first and second floors, 12-pane sash over door: No.6 has 16-pane sash to left of door, with panelled shutters, two 12-pane sashes on first floor, and one 12-pane sash over arch. All windows have painted sills and cambered brick arches. Rear: 2 storeys and attics, with 2-storey gable wall of extension to left. Carriage arch has plain timber lintel. No.4 has 6-panel door, 16-pane sash to left, 2x6-pane Yorkshire sash to right, 2-light casement further left: on first floor, narrow 12-pane staircase sash between later 12-pane sash to left and unequal 15-pane sash to right. No.6 has 12-pane sash on ground floor to left of arch, 16-pane sash above: extension has 16-pane sash on ground floor, 12-pane sash on first floor, both with painted brick arches and painted sills. Attic windows are raking dormers with 2-light Yorkshire sashes, those to No.4 with unequal lights, to No.6 with square lattice glazing. Left return has raised band at eaves level and date 17?? formed by tie rod ends. INTERIOR: of No.4. Ground floor: stone-flagged entrance hall; open string staircase with stick balusters, shaped treadends and plain handrail ramped-up to turned newels between ground and first floors: reeded cornice. Left front room has marble fireplace between round-headed alcoves; at rear, wide segment-arched alcove flanked by cupboards in reeded architraves with angle blocks: similar architrave to door: reeded cornice. Right front room has tiered cupboards with moulded panel doors on vestigial H-hinges. First floor: landing has reeded cornice. Left front room has marble fireplace with round-headed grate, reeded cornice and reeded architrave with angle blocks. Right front room has fireplace with panelled jambs, angle roundels, plain shelf and replacement round-headed grate. Right rear room has same fireplace and retains original basket grate. Attic has two plain fireplaces, one with original basket grate, one boarded.
