GV II
Two houses. 1865. Brick, with painted brick to ground floor and basement of No.19. Some painted stone dressings. Slate roof. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys plus attics and basements. Each house 2 bays. On the ground floor there are canted bay windows at the left, set on projecting brick panels, with pilasters at the angles, sashes, and cornices. Their bases contain basement windows, which are sashed with glazing bars. The upper windows are sashes with brick arches, and there is a 1st floor sill band. The pilaster doorcases have raised segmental arches and cornices, recessed doors, pilaster reveals, and overlights with segmental tops. The door to No.18 has 4 panels, the upper 2 round-headed, and the door to No.19 has 6 raised and fielded panels. No.18 has a narrow gabled attic dormer, and both houses have shaped brackets to their gutter cornices. Chimneys to left and right of each house. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: the attached railings have spear head finials and are set on low brick walls with stone copings. The gates are also of iron, with iron gateposts which have ball finials. Nos 1-22 Bootham Terrace form an unusually complete row of speculatively built terraced houses, constructed between 1860 and 1870 to an interesting variety of different designs.
