House, probably early C17. Coursed sandstone rubble with quoins,
stone slate roof with chimneys at both ends (higher buildings adjoin).
Two-bay end-baffle-entry plan, 2 low storeys with later 2-storey gabled
porch of dressed blocks at right end: this has a doorway with chamfered
jambs and lintel, and an oval window above. Ground floor has inserted
door in centre, 2 double-chamfered stone mullion windows with hoodmoulds,
of 4 and 5 lights; 1st floor has 3 windows of 3, 2 and 3 lights with
chamfered mullions. Rear has a 3-light mullioned firewindow (now under
glazed porch), a single-storey single-cell extension with quoins, and
various modernised windows. Interior: large inglenook with timber-framed
heck; chamfered ceiling beams in housepart; timber-framed partitions with
exposed wattle and daub; in parlour and in chamber above it, rectangular
stone fireplaces with chamfered jambs and heads; original roof trusses,
and close to chimney above inglenook a collar carrying a kingpost -
possibly associated with former firehood.
