screen of Hamsterley Hall
GV II

Gates, gatepiers, dwarf walls and screen at entrance to Hamsterley Hall (q.v.).
Probably early C20; perhaps from elsewhere. Ashlar piers and walls, the lower
courses pecked; wrought iron gates and screen. C18 style. Semicircular plan.
Quadrant walls have moulded coping continuous with plinths of tall square
corniced piers of gateway; plain coping on plinths of outer piers. All 4 piers
have labelled raised panels on front faces; gatepiers have low relief Prince of
Wales' feathers on these panels, and high scotia-moulded coping supporting tall
wrought-iron lampholders on scrolled feet. Screens are linked scrolls supporting
top rail with fleur-de-lys finials; gates in similar style have top rails
curving down from centre.
