Description

SS 81 SE CRUWYS MORCHARD WOOD PLACE LANE
2/96 Wood Farmhouse
-
GV II
Farmhouse. Probably C18. Whitewashed and rendered; thatched roof with plain ridge,
gabled at right end, hipped at left end; right end stack with brick shaft, axial
stack with brick shaft.
Plan: Plan form not entirely clear as no access to interior at time of survey (1986)
but appears to be a single depth main range plan with principal heated rooms, 1 on
either side of a central entrance. At the left end the first floor accommodation is
extended over a 1 room plan store room. Rear right outshut with slate roof, single
storey lean-to at left end.
Exterior : 2 storeys. 5 window front with regular fenestration, approximately
symmetrical between the chimney stacks with a central C20 front door with a flat
porch canopy carried on moulded brackets. C19 and C20 timber casements with glazing
bars; additional doorway into store room at extreme left. The rear elevation has a
back door to right of centre below a 2-light casement with square leaded panes, a
doorway at the extreme right and 1 ground floor 2-light casement with glazing bars ;
the outshut has casement windows.
Interior : Not thoroughly inspected but the right hand room has 2 roughly chamfered
cross beams and the left hand room has a boxed-in cross beam and C19 chimneypiece.
Other features may survive and an inspection of the roof timbers might necessitate a
revision of the suggested dating.
